Got the job I wanted! It’s on Rügen, an island in the Baltic Sea. This is the next big step in my devious plan to acquire a big bad black Bimmer (or whatever tickles my fancy about a year from now).

Congratulations! When are you going to move?

I actually came very close to booking a holiday on Rügen this summer. Prices/availability made me change my mind, but it’s said to be a very pretty place. I might have to come and visit you there some time.

Had the same problem in Bavaria. Government did issue a lot of permanent contracts before the last election and is now pretty much getting by with temp jobs. Private schools therefore know that they can pay way less. It was hopping from temp gig to temp gig or moving somewhere else.

Ooo fun. Don’t forget to become local to your place. Helps with being on a small island and not getting off much, usually. Of course, I’m 12.5 miles from the nearest stop light and 2500 miles from mainstream, so... maybe it’s a little different.

Originally the “Abitur” in Bavaria took 13 years. Think of it like HS aaaaand College, you could go straight to University. They shortened it to 12 years, but nobody is happy now. Teachers, students and parents complain. A lot. So they might go back to the old system, as might some other states.
